she/her/hers

I examine criminal justice issues that matter to Greater Clevelanders. I explain how decisions and laws are made, and collaborate with community members to create tools and resources that allow us to hold people in power accountable.

My Background

For more than two decades, I’ve published justice-focused pieces that have changed laws, policies and hearts and minds. I am the only two-time winner of the Dart Award for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma, and I train journalists in newsrooms and classrooms across the U.S. on how trauma affects our storytelling.

In 2023, I was part of a Marshall Project team that won a national Murrow Award for an investigation of Cleveland’s court system. In 2024, our Cleveland judge guide won an Online News Association Award for our election coverage.

I helped found Cleveland Documenters and Signal Cleveland, a local nonprofit newsroom, to help foster a more collaborative approach to news that prioritizes what residents want and need to know.

Contact Me About...

I want to hear from people who have experience inside Cleveland’s justice system, especially the courts. Also, what do you want to know about how the system works — or doesn’t?
