My Background

I have been a journalist for more than four decades at news organizations of all sizes. I spent most of my career at USA TODAY Co. (formerly Gannett) in various editing roles, including the top editor of two newspapers in central Ohio. While managing editor of The Herald-Dispatch, I created a project called “West Virginia After Coal” that won the James K. Batten Award for Civic Journalism.

I was one of the company's first content strategy analysts, working with USA TODAY and other newsrooms to optimize their digital offerings and attract more subscribers. I also helped launch a content strategy team at Lee Enterprises.
